Big Recruiting Weekend

Since Urban Meyer took over as the head coach at the University of Florida he has used the biggest home games of the season as recruiting tools. This weekend is no different. Saturday’s game against Florida State might appear on paper to be a laugher, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth. Saturday marks the final home game for the senior class that includes Brandon Spikes and Tim Tebow. The last home game for the winningest class in SEC history. Saturday’s game will also have a who’s who list of high school prospects in attendance. As of today, here is the list of official and unofficial visitors for the game:

Great post. Though, I thought Elam was going to be a running back.

I hope we can pick up Owamagbe Odighizuwa, if for no other reason than to hear Mick Hubert pronounce it. (Can you imagine what the ol' ball coach would do to that name?)

Elam is not a running back at the next level, he is a safety.

I know Urban recruited his brother at ND and is real close to the family, but he sounds like he is wavering. He came out publicly and said 'no more official visits' and then turns around visits UGA. Kiffin and Richt have both filled his head with the "come and play right away" fluff. I just hope Urban can hang on to him until signing day.

BTW-I was talking about Elam

Yes, I understand this issue with Matt Elam. Personally I am not a fan of the way that he has handled the process, however I don't have much say in the issue.

If you follow recruiting you have to understand that the power is with the players. Matt Elam comes out and gives a verbal to Florida. The Gators now HAVE to hold a spot for him in this year's class - barring certain circumstances, like not qualifying. Elam can go on 5 official visits; and Florida cannot drop him without risking some serious bad PR - not only with the high school but nationally.

For the record, I think Elam sticks with his committment, but I do think we lose a couple of our current verbals before signing day.

I am in the process of writing a recruiting entry as we speak.

I understand the coaches being at the mercy of these kids. And that's the key word here, KIDS! I think Elam has a bit of the dreaded swollen cranium syndrome. Like you, I think we get him in the end, but you never know until the fax comes in.

Don't blame the kids. If you have to place blame, it should be on the NCAA for allowing verbal commitments so early.

No blame, just stating reality. Don't get me started on the shortcomings of the NCAA!
