Thoughts from the Weekend

Thoughts from the weekend.

1. I am pretty sure that I am going to enjoy Tennessee having Stan Drayton coach their running backs a lot more than I enjoyed him coaching our running backs. Arian Foster’s fumble reminded me of the LSU game last year. You just can’t fumble the ball at that point of the game. Inexcusable.

2. I think the loss of Jeff Owens is going to hurt Georgia more than losing Trinton Sturdivant. Owens was THE leader on that defense. Figures that it would take a Florida boy to lead the puppies.

3. The ACC is horrific. Clemson, Virginia Tech, Virginia, Maryland, and of course the North Carolina game ball ceremony. For those of you who haven’t heard, paratroopers were supposed to deliver the game ball for the North Carolina game. Well they missed their target by 8 miles and landed on the football field at Duke University. Awesome!!

4. Can someone explain to me why anyone thought Clemson would be good this year? Tommy hasn’t had a team perform the way they were capable since he was at Tulane.

5. Speaking of Clemson, anyone else notice that Jamie Harper was given the first carry of the game? Apparently Tommy does keep promises, even if he doesn’t win big games. And no, beating papa Bowden no longer qualifies as a big win.

6. When Frank Beamer decided to red-shirt Tyrod Taylor was he basically throwing in the towel on the year? Also, is it possible that the block punt by ECU will save us from being force fed the term “Beamer Ball” whenever someone blocks a punt?

7. Did someone forget to tell Virginia they had a game Saturday?

8. The ‘stache losing against Bowling Green was great. From team on the rise to coach on the hot seat in one week.

9. Money well spent Michigan. Money well spent.

10. As for our game:

a. This year’s offense is going to be a major problem for opposing defensive coordinators. Starting with this week we could have the following players on the field at the same time: Tebow, Harvin, Rainey, Cooper, James/Demps, and Murphy. How do you defend that lineup?

b. Do you think that Jimbo Fisher regrets the decision not to give Jeff Demps a scholarship? Remember Bobby says they are only a few playmakers away from being back to themselves. Seems to me as though they are a few decision makers away from being good again.

c. Tebow’s numbers will be down this year and we will be a better team because of it.

d. Our secondary is going to be strength of this defense. Not to put down Doc, but Coach Bedford is an unbelievable coach and the difference is tangible.

e. There were about 5 or 6 plays by the defense that brought smiles to my face and they all involved 5 or so players around the ball on a short pass in the flat. I love the way the defense attacked the ball on Saturday.

f. Want to know what the coaches think about this game? Over 40 of the top senior and junior players will be at the game. Including our top remaining targets at QB, RB, WR, TE, OL, LB and DB. Reminds me of the last time FSU came to town.

Re: Tyrod Taylor...

Every sportswriter has come out against Beamer's decision, saying that with the awful receivers this year VT needs Taylor to be competitive.

To me, that sounds like the POINT! Because this year with this team would be difficult even with your best player at QB, why not save him so you get three years with better players? The hope is that next year the WRs will be more mature and experienced, and thus Taylor's impact will mean possible championships.

I don't even know that much about football. Why am I the only one who (seems to) understands what Beamer's doing?

Apparently neither you nor Beamer are sure. Reports out of Blacksburg on Tuesday have Beamer pulling the redshirt in order to save the team.

I saw that article as soon as I posted! Stupid decision, in my opinion...wait a year, Beamer!
