Open Season on Bloggers

Recently a number of sports writers have expressed their disdain for bloggers culminating with Buzz Bissinger's expletive filled tirade on Bob Costas' HBO show. The arguments, which are not confined to the realm of sports blogs are familiar: blogs are filled with lies, bloggers are mean-spirited, there's no fact checking on blogs, blogs value speed over accuracy.

What old guard journalists like Bissinger don't seem to understand is that the reason blogs even exist is because they fill a vacuum. Whether it's a more humorous take on the world of sports or a more serious look at what's going on in Cuba, bloggers fill the vacuum...

LMAO!!! Are you kidsding me?! Full of lies?! Mean spirited? No fact checking?! Speed over accuracy?! That's the exact description I would give to the actual media these days!!!

IMO blogs wouldn't be nearly as popular if the real life media wasn't all of the above, with plummeting standards, if they even have any standards left at this point.

If the media types can't handle that "non-professionals" are doing their jobs better than they are, they need to find a new line of work. Because I actually PREFER blogs to the garbage the media spews forth daily!!!

As far as Pissinger and the other sportswriters go who don't like blogs: Hey guys, it's a free country and as long as we have freedom of speech and freedom of expression, blogs will exist. (BTW Henry, big kudos for keeping FireRonZook alive in blog form!)

Gang of Three,

Just joined to say bravo for this blog. Did you guys write this wikipedia entry on the 2008 season too?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008_Florida_Gators_football_team

If so, good job, it has the best depth chart I have seen to date; no OFFENSE to Rivals, GatorBait, or GatorZone.

Thanks again.
