Final BlogPoll

We submitted our final BlogPoll vote of the year and, while we hate it, we believe it is the best effort possible from the smoking ruin that constitutes the 2007 college football season.

Overall we feel as if we know barely more than we did at the beginning of the year. Could Georgia and/or West Virginia and/or Missouri and/or Southern Cal beat LSU? We have no doubt that they could (and isn’t Georgia-LSU the great game that never happened, considering they are both SEC teams?)

All we really know is that LSU can beat Ohio State. Of course, so has every SEC team Ohio State played in a bowl game. And, we know Hawaii didn’t remotely belong.

On a final note, we did not vote a single non-BCS team in our top 25. BYU perhaps belonged, but we are taking a stand of sorts here – it is clear that non-BCS teams either will not be allowed to compete for “number 1” (Boise State last year), or cannot compete (Hawaii this year). So why bother to include them at all? If the real exercise is to determine a “national champion”, why even waste a vote on a team that is ineligible? It’s like putting a write-in candidate on a political ballot – you know he can’t win.

So, our final top 25 –

1. LSU
2. Kansas
3. Georgia
4. West Virginia
5. Missouri
6. Southern Cal
7. Oklahoma
8. Ohio State
9. Virginia Tech
10. Arizona State
11. Boston College
12. Texas
13. Auburn
14. Florida
15. Tennessee
16. Michigan
17. Cincinnati
18. Illinois
19. South Florida
20. Oregon
21. Oregon State
22. Clemson
23. Texas Tech
24. Wake Forest
25. Penn State

Explanations later, if we have the energy.

I have to agree with your refusal to rank non-BCS teams. And really, if not for the most underwhelming FG block I've ever seen BYU would've lost to UCLA for the second time this season. For all the upsets, the mid majors had a HORRIBLE year. 95% of all the upsets were by Appalachian State or bottom feeder BCS conference teams.
