Great article for those unfamiliar with the Gators

I know we have a lot of readers dropping by that may not be too familiar with the recent history of the Florida Gators football program. For their benefit I'd like to call attention to this great article from Sun-Sentinel reporter Dave Curtis. It gives the ousider some valuable insight about the depths from which the Gator program has come in just a little over 2 years.

Out of the bleachers charged those Mississippi State students, clanging their cowbells and sprinting toward a set of soon-to-be-toppled Davis Wade Stadium goalposts.

The reason for their Oct. 23, 2004, celebration flashed on the scoreboard: Bulldogs 38, Gators 31. Unranked, 1-5 MSU, which had lost to Maine five weeks before, had shocked the nation and upset Florida.

But for the Gators, the consequences of that celebration loomed more important. As they staggered off the field, tired and ticked off, hurt and almost hopeless, they knew their team had bottomed out. And they knew change would have to come.

It was truly one of the darkest days in Gator history, and at the same time one of the brightest, because it marked the beginning of the end of the Zook error.
