Carousel Part 2

Mullen to MSU?

Hate to see a good coach leave, but it is inevitable.

Couple of things come to mind:

1. Will this mean the BCSCG is Tim Tebow's last game?
2. Does Billy Gonzales move up to OC?
3. Since Mullen was also the QB coach who would be the new QB coach

Yikes!!

Just talked to a friend in Orlando and UCF will being firing George O'Leary, possibly as soon as today. At the top of their coaching wishlist - Charlie Strong.

I think Tebow's chances of going pro went from 40% to 90%.

On the plus side, this opens up the idea of bringing in Kerwin Bell, who coached Brantley back in high school. May work out okay.

Don't want to see Strong go to a miserable program like UCF. He's better off holding out for a team like Auburn or South Carolina.

I have heard it might just be the opposite with regards to Tebow.

I love the idea of bringing Kerwin back to the University. You would have to think the fact that Brantley is the next QB at UF would be a big draw. If Tim stays, Kerwin could help him.

I have said this numerous times, despite the fact that Charlie undoubtedly deserves to be the HBC at somewhere like Auburn or South Carolina the deep south is ready to put aside some of its prejudices and Charlie would never be named head coach at one of those schools.

From a Georgia fan, this is awesome news. However, it does drive home (I mean, again, 49-10 did a good job too) that Meyer's staff has been doing something right.

@Scully: Hope you're right re: Tebow.

@blackertai: Know what's even more awesome news? Willie Martinez is still your defensive coordinator!

First of all if the biggest thing you have to hang your hat on is our assistants getting promoted that pretty much tells you where you are in the rivalry. Mergz and I talked about UGA and FSU playing and then we would play the winner. Just a thought.

Quick name as a Mullen replacement - Greg Brandon. Brandon was Coach Meyer's OC at Bowling Green and stayed there as HBC. Brandon was recently fired.

I imagine that Billy Gonzales will be our next OC but Brandon might fit in the opening left by Mullen.

Wow, you completely don't know how to take a complement, do you? I was praising the success your team has had, and you go on the offensive? Congrats, you play to every stereotype we Georgia fans have for classless UF grads.

Regardless, I doubt Meyer has a hard time finding a replacement. His program gets some of the finest recruits in the country year in/out. Now, if your rumor about UCF and Strong is true, that could spell trouble. I wouldn't hesitate to state that Strong's probably the best coach on your team. What he does every year (even last year with the "Incredible Burning 2ndary" - Swindle) is just amazing. Hope those rumors are wrong for your sake.

I know Billy handles the Red Zone preparation and plays, and might be a good option, but still leave QB coach open...

Total left field call, but what about Tony Franklin? I, obviously, don't know the true story of Auburn, but they never "married" the spread and he was - at one time at least - highly regarded...

Tony Franklin reportedly used a racial term for one of his QBs. My understanding is that Tubs fired him to save the team, not himself.

Somebody else I would like to see considered as a possible OC replacement - Andy Ludwig from Utah.

If Meyer promotes from within and names either Gonzales or Addazio as his OC, I would be OK with Kerwin Bell joining our staff as QB coach if he were offered the position; as it was mentioned there would be an immediate rapport between him and John Brantley, and I'm sure Tim Tebow would be happy with that choice as well.

IMO George O'Leary is an ass; however, I've read nothing at the Sentinel or other sites that he's likely to be fired. He's screwing the pooch at UCF for sure, and this latest episode with a player's health being in danger puts him in a precarious situation, no doubt. Until I hear otherwise, I'm dismissing all this "Strong to UCF" stuff as just rumor floating around in cyberspace.
