Déjà Vu

Ohio State simply isn’t one of the big boys.

In the last 3 years, the Buckeyes have played 3 serious out-of-conference opponents, losing 41-14 (Florida), 38-24 (LSU) and now, 35-3. That’s 114-41 for those keeping score at home.

I took some flack for my vote in the BlogPoll placing Ohio State 25th.

Specifically, it was pointed out -

But that’s nowhere near enough to garner me a Mr. Bold award, and shockingly Doctor Saturday, nee SMQ, was also beaten out. Saurian Sagacity takes it for such oddities as:

Ohio State #25

ECU #1
You get the idea

No worries for me. I only have to drop them one spot from where I put them. All the other BlogPollers have to send them 20 spots or more down to their rightful place.

You see no reasonable, rational or even remotely sane person can rank Ohio State in the top 25 right now. This is a 2-1 team, with a win over lower division Youngstown State, a very narrow win over MAC opponent Ohio, and a complete evisceration by the only real team they have faced.

This was an elimination game. As in, Ohio State - see ya, bye-bye, have a nice Big Ten season. But don't bother with the tickets to Miami.

From how I see it, the only downside is that the SEC won’t have their usual gimme opponent for the BCS Championship game this year.

While we are at it, nice day in the Pac Ten! UCLA is clearly making progress - in some alternative universe that is, losing to BYU only 59-0. Apparently there is only a single team in the Pac Ten (see above).

And Georgia, who are you? So much talent. Was this one of those “great escape” games every eventual “National Champion” has, or a sign of things to come?

UPDATE: This comment by fellow blogger year2 too good not to add here -

Not to mention Cal losing to a team that lost by 10 to MTSU and Oregon needing a minor miracle to win at mid-range Big Ten team Purdue in 2OT.

Then there was Stanford getting blown out by TCU, Washington getting blown out by Oklahoma, Washington State getting blown out by Baylor (!), Arizona losing to New Mexico, and Arizona State losing in overtime to UNLV.

Not a vintage Pac-10 weekend for sure.

USC is going to walk the Pac Ten. Pencil them - no INK them - in for the MNC in Miami.

So, now the debate over 'worst BCS conference' includes the Pac-9 too...

At least the PAC-1 is doing well for itself, as it always does.

Although somehow, I think Sagarin will still manage to declare the PAC-10 the premiere conference.

Two words: Stanford. 2007.

Two more: UCLA. 2006.

Weird things happen. That said, holy balls that team looks great.
