Florida - Michigan

So, I’m sitting here at the pool bar at Ocean Reef Club, and I realize I haven’t put a thing on the blog about the Florida – Michigan game. So I’m going to try a full on blog post from my IPhone. With pictures.

My view
.
It is perhaps a bit ironic that I’m at Ocean Reef, as the club is purportedly where Michigan AD Bill Martin was hiding out when he blew the Les Miles deal. Not that it matters – I think Michigan got a better coach in the long run. Perhaps if I run across Martin I’ll ask him about it.

So, what to think of Florida against Michigan? What to think of trying to blog on this damn little screen based keyboard on my IPhone?

Florida. Michigan.

I really don’t give a shit.

We either beat Michigan, as widely expected, and maybe end up 1 place higher in the final polls, or we lose to the team that lost to Appalachian State.
.
The Bowl system sucks.

My poison

Yeah, yeah – Carr’s final game, Tebow, Heisman, 10 wins. Still don’t give a shit.

Bartender – another Bloody please.

You cant just not care. We all know a playoff would be better, but bowls are still fun and kind of important. We need to win (and preferably dominate) to further prove that the big 10 sucks and the SEC is by far the best conference. Its our chance to face an opponent that is usually too scared to play us. Its the last game of our football season and I'm excited about it.

I'll care more at kickoff.

so far it looks like the Big Ten was a little underated but not that I'm worried. the Bowl system doesn't "suck", it's great to watch these various teams play in different locations. more of these kids get to go home winners than they would in some dragged out playoff. you can't expect teams with 100 players and as many band members to go through a playoff system over the holidays. you'd have to be an idiot to think that might ever happen.

Somehow they seem to manage in Div II & III with a playoff and a real championship...

I've actually been more into the bowls than ever before, due to me being utterly sick and tired of the damn Patriots even BEFORE they officially went 16-0. It turns out I'll watch any football game not Pats or NFL-related.

Jimmiej, you'd have to be an idiot to think that a playoff system can't be pulled off.

Jimmiej, America loves championships and champions. Consider the frenzy that surrounds the NFL playoffs, the NBA playoffs, MLB playoffs. Hell, every single significant college and pro sport in America has some kind of playoff and championship EX Div IA football. America is about competition in sports, about earning your way to be deemed a National Champion, not to have it bestowed by some bunch of pundits who constantly show favortism. You might as well just have some watery tart rise from a lake and declare who is the champion. THE BOWL SYSTEM IS CRAP AND MOST PEOPLE NOW RECOGNIZE THAT IT JUST DOESN'T MATCH OUR CURRENT SOCIETY. But, go ahead and live in the 2nd millenium if you must...

I'm not going to call you guys morons just cause your young and don't get it...but maybe if you put some thought into it you'd realize the bowl system is a gravy train we can't afford to lose, don't you see it's about money? If there's a playoff system there will be neutral sites and that equals less money SEC country reaps from northerners spending all their loot down here not to mention the ass kicking our SEC teams would get playing in hostile non-conference environments. As much as you guys love the idea of playoffs it would come at a cost. Look at the advantage and the benefit the current bowl system provides, can we really afford to lose that?

Jimmyj,

The idea that this system is a fraud wasn't something we cooked up with this post. It's been a cornerstone of this blog since the beginning. You can read through the archives to see our detailed arguments. As for being young, I'm 38 and Mergz is older than me. We're not little kids.

By the way just because the current system makes a lot of money does not preclude the possibility that a true national championship with the raised level of interest that it would generate would not make more.

jimmyj, who is young? I'm 60, for crying out loud! I've seen this crap go on for many, many years. The bowl system is way too flawed and this is nothing new. It has been discussed for at least the last 40 years how teams that play weak opponents wind up with all the glory and go to the good bowl games and are declared national champions. You are the one who needs to wake up and smell the coffee.

The outcome of this year's season, the way the BCS was calcluated and the bowl pairings as a result of this cattywompus system are justifiable arguments on the "pro" side to institute a playoff. Why continue to compromise the integrity of Division 1-A college football just because of the almighty dollar and the need to gratify the media? That's bullshit.

You can have your cake and eat it too... keep the bowls. Add 1 more if you like... Go to a plus 1. This is the exception where a #5 team might have a legit argument, but not really... Play the NC a week later like we already do. 1 vs 4 and 2 vs 3. Then take the winner. It's not hard and it doesn't really hurt what we already have.

As to teams having an argument this year... UGA got creamed by Tennessee... USC got beat by Stanford (wth?!)... VT got beat by LSU by 41!... OU has a legit argument, but that's about it in my view.
